Carol L. Heiblum
IBM executive and disability advocate Carol Heiblum brings to the AccessTECH Board a distinctive combination of senior enterprise technology leadership and more than two decades of hands-on experience advocating for individuals with disabilities and accessibility inclusion.
Carol spent over fifteen years in enterprise technology sales, consulting, and operational leadership, holding senior roles with IBM, Viasoft, and Vitria Technology. At IBM, she managed the company鈥檚 global relationship with the United Nations, leading the IBM UN team in securing contract awards totaling up to $80 million annually. Her performance earned her recognition as one of IBM鈥檚 top Sales Executive worldwide. During her tenure at Viasoft, Carol increased regional revenue by 700% over a three-year period and was honored as Eastern Region Sales Executive of the Year. Earlier in her career, she held progressively senior management positions at GTE Corporation, overseeing operations and customer service across the Eastern Region. Throughout her corporate career, Carol developed extensive expertise in strategic leadership, complex stakeholder engagement, and building successful partnerships within Fortune 1000 organizations.
In 2000, Carol and her husband, Maurice, adopted twins from Vietnam. Their son, David, was later diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, prompting Carol to transition from her corporate career to full-time advocacy and support for her children. Over the past 25 years, she has dedicated herself to ensuring David had every opportunity to thrive alongside his twin sister, Ashley. Central to that journey was Carol鈥檚 unwavering belief in the transformative power of education. She became a tireless advocate for ensuring David had access to the educational resources, accommodations and opportunities necessary to reach his full potential academically. Her commitment to education helped guide David鈥檚 path to higher education and independence, while also deepening her understanding of the barriers and opportunities facing 杏吧直播间 with disabilities and their families.
Through this journey, Carol gained deep firsthand experience navigating pediatric healthcare, special education, essential therapeutic services, assistive technology, public education systems, college and the transition to adulthood for individuals with disabilities. Carol鈥檚 professional leadership background, combined with her personal advocacy experience, gives her a uniquely informed perspective on accessibility, inclusion, and the practical supports that empower individuals with disabilities to lead independent and fulfilling lives.
