FAU Recognized for Innovative Advising �Ӱ�ֱ����

Florida Atlantic University recently was recognized for its efforts to provide academic advising to �Ӱ�ֱ���� in on-campus parking garages. (UAS) received the “Most Innovative �Ӱ�ֱ����ming Award” at the (FLACADA) annual conference, hosted by Florida A & M University.

 “Get Wise: Advising on the Go” was launched in spring 2015 in an effort to target commuter �Ӱ�ֱ���� and working �Ӱ�ֱ���� who take evening classes when FAU offices are closed. About 83 percent of the 21,000 �Ӱ�ֱ���� on the Boca Raton campus are commuters. Academic advisers are stationed in Garages 1 and 2 between 5 and 7 p.m. to talk with �Ӱ�ֱ����, answer questions and to partner them with their assigned academic advisors. In fall 2016, advisers spoke with nearly 400 �Ӱ�ֱ���� in the parking garages.

“This program is truly an example of meeting �Ӱ�ֱ���� where they are,” said Angel Nevin, assistant director of UAS. “By connecting �Ӱ�ֱ���� to an academic adviser, we are encouraging and fostering student involvement and engagement, which has been shown to increase retention.”
