Transfer LEARN
T-LEARNâ„¢ is for ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥¼ä transferring to FAU from a state or community college. T-LEARNâ„¢ ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥¼ä must have an AA/AS degree upon starting at FAU.
T-LEARNâ„¢ is a learning community established at FAU in 2016 that focusses on ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥¼ä’ academic success and fostering growth through undergraduate research. By working with on-campus partners, T-LEARNâ„¢ provides a select group of first-year, transfer ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥¼ä a hands-on learning experience by helping ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥¼ä engage in research.
There are 2 distinct T-LEARNâ„¢ cohorts:
- T-LEARNâ„¢ STEM
- T-LEARNâ„¢ Arts, Business, and Humanities (ABH)
Students in this program will:
- Experience a small learning community at a large research university. Transitioning to a large university can be a bit daunting to a first-year, transfer student. We provide opportunities for our T-LEARNâ„¢ÌýÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥¼ä to build one-on-one relationships with faculty, staff, and other ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥¼ä on campus.
- ReceiveÌýpriority registration.
- Enroll Ìýin two Introduction to Research courses to produce a research proposal and poster presentation.
- Engage in a 12-week research apprenticeship with a graduate student/faculty mentor team.
- Participate in academic, social, and community service activities through FAU-sponsored events to build and strengthen their network of peers.
- Acquire skills that will make them qualified and competitive to apply to upper-level undergraduate research programs and internships.

Academics
Academics are a strong component of the T-LEARNâ„¢Ìýprogram. All accepted ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥¼ä will take two classes together. Part I, Fundamentals of Research and Inquiry, is taken in the fall semester and Part II, Introduction to Undergraduate Research Design, is taken in the spring semester. For more information on Academics in the LEARNâ„¢ÌýÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥¼ä, visit our Academics Page.

Mentoring
T-LEARNâ„¢ÌýÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥¼ä will have various mentors during their time in the program. Each student will be assigned a Peer Mentor who is an upperclassman involved in research. T-LEARNâ„¢ÌýÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥¼ä will benefit from faculty mentorship. Faculty mentors will mentor ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥¼ä regarding the research process and they can offer invaluable advice on graduate education, research experience, and possible insight into future careers. For more information on Mentoring in the LEARNâ„¢ÌýÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥¼ä, visit our Mentoring Page.
Community
The LEARNâ„¢Ìýcommunity component is built on a variety of experiences together. Throughout the semester, ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥¼ä will attend 6 academic and social events, and at least one community service event pre-scheduled through the program staff.
