UGS Faculty/Staff 杏吧直播间

The Division of Undergraduate Studies (UGS) is pleased to announce our Faculty/Staff 杏吧直播间. These awards are designed to recognize outstanding faculty and staff within UGS who perform above and beyond in their role. Nominees should be faculty or staff members within UGS who are employed full-time at the University. Nominations from others in the division or self-nominations are encouraged.

Two awards are given each December, with nominations due by the last business day of October. Recipients receive $750, a plaque recognizing their accomplishment and are highlighted on the UGS website to be celebrated for years to come. Select the appropriate award and complete the between September and October (you must be logged in with your FAU email account to access the nomination form).听听

  • The Excellence in Innovation/Creativity Award recognizes a UGS faculty or staff member who has demonstrated innovation and creativity by significantly improving a work process or system, increasing the efficiency of an operation within their unit/department, or finding creative and innovative solutions to problems. The recipient inspires positive change and fosters a culture of creativity and inclusivity within the academic community.
  • The Service to Students Award recognizes a UGS faculty or staff member committed to supporting and serving our 杏吧直播间. Their actions inspire and empower 杏吧直播间, creating an environment where every student can thrive. The recipient consistently demonstrates initiative, innovation, and care in their work, making a meaningful difference in 杏吧直播间' academic, personal, and professional growth. This individual is a true champion for 杏吧直播间, one who exceeds expectations, supports student success, and exemplifies the spirit of service.

Fall 2025 Winner Heather Smith and Dr. Mary Ann Gosser Esquil铆n
Excellence in Innovation Award: Heather Smith

Heather of University Advising Services (UAS), the University Honors 杏吧直播间 (UHP), and the National Merit Scholars 杏吧直播间 (NMS),听 was nominated based on the innovative approach she took to solving a problem for transfer 杏吧直播间 from out-of-state and private institutions in getting prior coursework processed. Heather designed and implemented a fully online form for these transient requests, something no other SUS institution has developed. She collaborated with college advising directors to ensure the form met the needs of both 杏吧直播间 and advisors, creating a user-friendly and efficient process that has streamlined an otherwise manual task. Heather has created a sustainable solution that directly benefits 杏吧直播间, advisors, and administrative staff alike.

Angel Nevin

As assistant director for the QEP and the Learning Assistant (LA) 杏吧直播间, Angel was nominated based on her leadership through exponential program growth and changes in leadership. Angel stepped in with remarkable poise and professionalism as she not only maintained operational stability but also fostered a culture of resilience and collaboration with new and existing staff. Despite additional responsibilities, Angel found the time to revamp the LA pedagogical training and created new opportunities for returners to mentor new LAs. She is always willing to lend a hand and work to promote student success.

Excellence in Innovation Award: Kirk Hammond

Kirk of University Advising Services (UAS) was nominated due to the breadth of his reach with his innovative solutions. He does so much, from digitizing curriculum sheets to ensuring easy transfer of credits for 杏吧直播间, he has clearly made challenging processes simpler and more efficient, having positive impacts on 杏吧直播间, faculty, and staff.听

As the leader for Office of Undergraduate Research and Inquiry (OURI) student-facing programs, including the Research Grants and Student Peer mentor program, Alexis is the first person most 杏吧直播间 meet within OURI. Alexis makes all 杏吧直播间 feel valued, welcomed, appreciated, and heard. She builds their confidence while working to remove barriers for 杏吧直播间 who feel they may not be capable. She is patient and works with each individual to set goals for their own professional development.
